Maeve's Digital Journal
Hello! I'm Maeve and you're viewing my digital journal! This page should give a reasonable overview of who I am, what this journal is, and how to navigate its content! Thanks for reading!
Who am I?
My name is Maeve Holm and I am a PhD student in mathematics at Oregon State University. My research interests (stated broadly) are computational topology, differential geometry, and dynamical systems. My dissertation work focuses mainly on whether the signatures of paths can be used to describe the underlying geometry of the space in which those paths lie.
I also have a lot of interests outside of my work in mathematics! Primary among these are backpacking, cooking, watching movies, and playing board games. I also on occasion enjoy reading poetry, philosophy, and (very rarely) fiction.
What is this?
This is a digital journal! Right now, its primary purpose is to allow me to organize my dissertation research in a coherent and shareable way.
As you likely have already noticed, some notes will contain clickable links to other notes. These links are the primary mechanism to traverse the journal! There is also a search functionality if you are looking for something specific.
Directories
There are a number of pages that act as directories for particular categories of notes. For convenience, I have listed them here in a directory of directories:
Note Icons
My journal also makes use of note icons to specify how developed a particular idea is. The icons and their meanings are:
| Symbol | Name | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Developing | These are ideas that I am actively exploring! Notes are usually just rough ideas, lists of directions to explore, examples, or proof sketches. | |
| Reviewable | These are ideas that I feel are somewhat developed and am looking for input/edits on! Notes should be well organized, formally written, and include a LaTeX link at the bottom of the page for easy edit and review. | |
| Finalized | These are ideas that I feel are basically solidified and have been reviewed! These notes are still obviously subject to change, but should include content that I would be comfortable including in my finished dissertation. |
How is this?
This site is created using Obsidian and the Digital Garden community plugin. Directory pages are generated via the Dataview community plugin. LaTeX links are links to files in a private github repository. If you require access and do not have it, let me know!
